  2. Make ready 1/2 cup gobindo bhog rice (Short grain rice)
  3. Get 1 potato cut into cube
  4. Get 1 big size onion
  5. Take 1 big size tomato chopped
  6. Make ready 4 green chilli
  7. Get 2 tea spoon turmeric powder
  8. Make ready 3 tea spoon cumin powder
  9. Take 1 tea spoon garam masala powder
  10. Make ready 1 tea spoon Red chilli powder
  11. Make ready 2 tea spoon ginger garlic paste
  12. Prepare 1 tbsp ghee
  13. Prepare 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  14. Prepare 1 bay leaf
  15. Make ready 1 dried red chilli
  16. Prepare 3-4 Cardamom
  17. Take 1 cinnamon stick
  18. Take 4 tbsp mustard oil
  19. Take to taste Salt
  20. Take 1 tea spoon Sugar

My sister and I were very fond of eating the soft and juicy fish brain, so fish head curry was often in the menu. I have not used rice at all in this recipe, as my kids don't like rice incorporated into this curry. 'Muri Ghonto' is prepared with rice and fish-head where both are cooked together. We mostly serve it as a side dish with rice. But some people like to have it with roti as well.

Instructions to make Muri ghonto (fish head curry with rice):
  1. Merinat the fish head with salt and turmeric powder for 10-15 mins.
  2. Heat a pan add 2 tbl spoon mustard oil. fry the fish head properly and keep aside. now fry the potato cubes by adding slight salt and turmeric powder.keep the fried potatoes aside.
  3. Now add rest of the oil and add bay leaf,dried red chilli,cumin seeds, cinnamon and Cardamom saute for few seconds. Now add chopped onion and green chilli fry till golden brown.
  4. Add rice and saute till the aroma of rice spread.
  5. Add ginger garlic paste, chopped tomato and salt cook for 10 mins.
  6. Add fried fish head and fried potato cubes along with turmeric, cumin and garam masala powder mix well.cook for 5 mins.
  7. Add 1 cup warm water mix well and cover it. Cook for 10-15 mins so that the rice is properly boil.
  8. Lastly add sugar and ghee cook for 2mins.
  9. Delicious fish head curry is ready to eat.

We mostly serve it as a side dish with rice. But some people like to have it with roti as well. Actually it doesn't matter what else you have in your platter as long as you have a bowl full of steaming hot 'Muri-Ghonto' in front of. Muri-Ghonto, one of the most popular & traditional Bengali dish. The word 'Muri' or 'Muro' stands for head.
